about the project

Merve at the beginning wanted to have a design that will differentiate Balköpüğü from other blogs, unlike the classical blog designs. So I realized that this project will be very personal with customized blog elements. We established the color palette which was gold, pink and a little blue and general look of blog. I designed drop-down menu, post titles stylization, about author picture, illustrated menu and wide range of elements - pretty much everything was customized and redesigned. But I won't describe everything for you, when you can look around on Balköpüğü Blog and see on the pictures below :)

DESIGN WORK 04: my fat me ania

what I do

blog design
logo design

meet the client

I was making the blog design for Ania from London. She write a food blog: my fat me ania. She isn't vegetarian or vegan, but many of her recipes are. 4 years ago she was diagnosed with PCOS and within the last 18 months she put more than 3stones weigh. Her eating habits are changing now and moving towards enjoying clean, healthy, and raw food. she also try to use whole, unprocessed and gluten free ingredients as much as possible. Ania love eating food, especially while in the presence of good company and experimenting with food, creating new recipes and improving the old ones. This blog is her journey to healthier and better life.

about the project

My job was to create minimalist and clean blog design with watercolor design elements and logo. I coded magazine style for labels and archive pages to show recipes differently. I added a drop down menu for better navigation, custom social media icons and lovely about author widget with my own illustrations. I tried to gently sneak purple / pink  color palette  into blog design, to keep fresh look, not to overwhelm the reader with those color. On a white background, they stand out nicely and they are silent ambassador of this blog. Custom mobile styling and blog footer closes the project. See for yourself:

DESIGN WORK 03: ikomi blog

Recently I was working on colorful custom order for blog design for IKOMI BLOG.

what i do:

blog design for blogger

meet the client

Let me just quote her lovely introduction:

Hello and welcome! My name is Inari and I'm the writer of this blog. The name of the blog comes from letters picked from my first and last names, and doesn't really mean anything (not even in japan, as far as I know). And that's what makes it awesome. The blog is written in two languages, (English and my mother tongue Finnish), as I really couldn't pick just one. And I enjoy writing in both of them.

This blog is like a notebook I share with others. I write about things I like and that are important to me, no matter how small they are. In my blog you can find lists, crafts, colour charts, little joys and ordinary everyday life. My love for colours and photographing can also be seen in my blog

I live Finland, in Helsinki, but I dream about moving back to Turku. I am a librarian and currently read loads of children's literature for my job. I always carry a notebook with me, when writing this there were five of them in my bag. I own eleven cameras and mostly use one of them. I have lots of ideas but too little time to try them out. I collect teacups, buttons and jewelry. I hate it when my feet get wet, when people are mean to each other with intent and when the machines aren't working as they should. Instead I like soap bubbles. mint chocolate, film photography, bookstores, tea, rubber boots and taking naps.

about the project

The key to the new design was to define the clean space with multicolored palette. Inari wants something subtle and easy readable. It was amazing process to include this juicy range of colors but still keep the feeling of minimalist layout. I have design something suitable for the new banner which was created by Spanish Marina MareLloba. So this was a small cooperation with another creator.

MOODBOARD 2 - aqua & gold

moodboard aqua gold pastel feather studio

Besides regular "job" in my etsy shop and other custom orders I have to remember that my Pastel Feather Studio is also a PROJECT. Definitely an unfinished one, since I'm sick of my blog and website look. So while working on other items, I have found time to do something for myself. And I love it so far!

I was wondering how refresh my brand, to match the colors to character of my work and my brand name. So I choose light colors: shades of aqua, with a lot of white, watercolor style, my handwriting / calligraphy logo and a little bit of gold elements. Now I can start think about website layout and typography.

I hope brand makeover will be successful and inspirational :)

DESIGN WORK 02: CRONACHE DI UNA BIONDA NATURALE

Marzia is lovely woman from Italy and her blog name is CRONACHE DI UNA BIONDA NATURALE witch means: Chronicles of natural blonde. She is psychotherapist and write about lifestyle, sex, love, relationships, family and a little bit of psychology. Marzia is true fan of "Sex in the city" and Mr.Big. (honestly who doesn't love this show?:) I love it too!) Beside this Marzia loves two wheels and high heels. She talk loudly about very important and not easy topics like: teenager sex, aging, how to be a lady, how to take compliments. Describes the different types of relationships, types of men, and many other things. Check her blog now!

about the project

This design process was super fun and quick. Marzia highlight the basics of desired look, which was: modern, ascetic, simple, minimalist and clean style based on white, grey and black color. After first review Marzia was super satisfied with new look, so I finished the coding, worked on some details like pin-it button and transitions of menu elements and new template was ready.

During the week I worked on a new project for Marzia (soon a post about her blog makeover) but I find some time for practicing my calligraphy & Illustrator skills. And this is an effect :) I'm lately obsessed by mint, aqua and turquoise all-kind-of colors so it was obvious for me to combine this two thing together. How you like it?

ABSTRACT COLOR PALETTE

artwork - britt bass turner summer print, color palette designed by me.

During this silent time I was a lot of thinking of my designs and color palettes. I was so tired and and stopped like this monotony - which, incidentally, I set for myself. But here, now is new season, spring has arrived so I really want to refresh my color palettes style (Again!;)

The first time I did color combinations, and placed them on circles. (here, here and for example here) which was an Y E A R ago! Since then I've learned a lot about myself and what I like, even though I haven't accomplished a lot in blogging.

After that in autumn 2013 I did a makeover and change the blog template and color palette too into ribbon style. But the whole time I was bothered that I again have limited place and the number of colors that I can choose. Typically, this was five colors, rarely six. And the other thing, that was important to me to highlight the author of photo that I use. From time to time I thought to myself that it's not fair to use someone else's photos, modify them and add the appropriate signature.I know it's normal thing in whole blogosphere but I have in the footer of the blog i have information about credits and I'm asking about link-back my work, so I should follow this rule the other way too. I don't like hypocrisy.

Spring 2014: So here I come with new color palettes with credits in the image (for Pinterest) and link for blog readers. Slowly, I'm also resigning from using photographs of nature, landscapes, etc, (very hard to find the original source of image) and I'll use artwork, prints, paints. Everything what I like in arts. Additionally, I won't limit myself of the amount of selected colors. I choose as many as needed. I want to also play with the proportions and fit them on how much is used in a particular work.

So as you can see, May is the time for me to summarize my work and style. And it is a great feeling, because I realize that I evolving as a designer.

Spring time!

Every flower must grow through dirt.
my calligraphy

Hello! It's been forever!

I was blogging so little but the spring came and with it a new season. Perhaps this post is late, but here in Poland Spring has just begun. The sun is shining, the air is clean and brisk and I feel like it's a new start for everything in my life.

I was thinking a lot about in what direction I want to go with blog and Studio, and all this businesses. I just started working on next project and designing a blog template, and I'm very happy about it! :)

I also working on re-branding of my websites. I want to have website and blog in one place, under one Internet address. I have to refresh my brand for new season so... finger crossed. :3

During this time I was practicing my skills in Illustrator and made first steps with calligraphy and turning it into vector. (Picture above is a small sample) I think I found out my own "style" of handwriting. A little bit messy, irregular, italic and uneven. So it's basically a total denial of calligraphy rules. Because I'm not really into holding the lines and proportions of letters. I tried but I prefer my scribbles. Don't hold that against me! ;)

So, yay! I'm happy and looking forward for new season and brand new edition of blog.

DESIGN WORK 01: CALLIGRAPHANDO

Over the last month I worked on my first order covering the whole rebranding of wonderful blog Calligraphando. Read all about the process and view images :)

WHAT I DO

  • logo design
  • brand design
  • website design
  • business card design

Meet the client

Cecilia is a wonderful woman from Italy who loves calligraphy. Calligraphando the place where she share her passion for calligraphy and the written word in any form. This is the place where she shows story of her handwriting and creativity, on how to calligraphy may become a part of everyday life. This is also an attempt to start up her own creative company designing and making great calligraphy stationery for events such as weddings, birthdays and similar. Giving customers the pleasure to have a uniquely designed and handmade stationery. CHECK OUT HER WEBSITE! http://www.calligraphando.com/

About the project

My job was to design fresh and elegant brand and blog mainly for women readers. Blog have to be clean and easy readable. We were looking for the correct color palette for some time until we decided to use colors referring to calligraphy, ink, paper with a little bit of red and pink. For logo I used Cecilia handwriting (she was so good and sent me a picture by email) then I change the photo into the vector and later design all elements in Illustrator. I made "C" monogram resembling dripping ink on paper, with red ink texture. Also I used this trick to design the buttons for website, background for post dates to look like steeped in black ink sheet of paper. Must have for Cecilia blog was: stick-to-top drop down menu and floating social media icons. After exchanging many emails with Cecilia I was able to capture the sophisticated style, pleasing to the eye, delicate but with a strong selection of red, referring to the subject of calligraphy. It was a great challenge and a wonderful time to design whole rebranding of Calligraphando, change and change again elements to, in the end, get such a great visual identity!

Shop updates and life lately

Hello!

I've been very busy lately with Pastel Feather Shop so my blog came down to second place.
But today I'll give a little update whats going on :)

• due the many requests of color changes in Charlotte Blogger Template I decided to expand this product line with new colors. So here we have two new Charlotte blogger templates in shop: aqua / teal and violet / blue. Other color are in progress. I'm thinking about pink, green and yellow.

• I'm currently working on two brand new templates. One with neon yellow and teal watercolor theme and  one completely different with hexagonal shapes. Sweet! :)

• I'm trying learn a little bit calligraphy :) I did literally the first attempts in life with ordinary neon highlighters.

(Here my first doodles)

I wanted to see if I even like it and if I have any talent in this field. But I really liked it and...I'm try-harding ;) I love modern calligraphy and I'm pinning here everything about it and  I'll be learning this skill from this pictures. I admire stunning style of Lindsay Letters , Mellisa Esplin and HejHeidi . So I'll have a serious trip to the stationery store for a decent markers, ink and pen. This thing is very fresh and I don't know anything about it, brushes, inks and techniques are a little blurry right now (like this picture - sorry for quality - my camera still broken)  but I can't wait to learn this! :)

• Finally, I started to arrange my 'office' and this week I bought a great big white desk and working on the decoration of my little corner. When ready it will share photographs because I can't wait to be ready and frankly, I need my own, pretty work space. I still jealously watching pictures of cool work-spaces, offices and office supplies on Pinterest, (here and here) But I want to build my place in accordance with the design, decore trends even with a very small budget. So what I can do I'll be DIY. Yay!

That's all for now! Stay awesome!

soundsystem / 1

Hi! :)

We should stimulate all of our senses. The best proportionally :)

But you can't, for example, everyday spend the same amount of time to smell the flowers in the meadow to keep your  sense of smell satisfied. Well unless you have so much free time... I don't.

I know I spend too much time on the computer ans tiring eyes of. Then I read a book, work, design, watch TV. Everything I do I use my eyes. Which is not good, because I have a big vision defect and shouldn't strain my eyes - especially shortsightedness.

To get away from it, I become listen to the music - everyday. I never wonder about my music taste and what I like. I just listening the standard polish radio's where are played commercial music. I want to try something new and alternative. I discovered so many great songs and bands, rock bands, DJ's and instrumentalists that I gathered dozens of gigs of music.

So I dig into some music pages like soundcloud, spotify (which I never do before) and choose an 8tracks as my favorite radio / a little bit of social media music page. It's good to me because I always wanted to have an online music library with proper tags - like album, release year, genre etc. and I have in my computer a pretty big collection of songs. But sometimes I delete something by accident and my Windows Media Player connect with internet and change names and tags and I have a big mess anyway. Ugh. Do you know good PC program to keep music well organized ?
Ok that enough of  entry to this post (a new series maybe?)

I want to share with you my recent and first of many (I hope so) favorite playlist:

  1. Les Djinns - Djuma Soundsystem
  2. Flicking Pages - The Timewriter
  3. Breathing Place - Vibrasphere
  4. Beautiful Things - Andain
  5. Think Twice - Ralph Myerz
  6. Bullets - Archive
  7. World Hold On - Bob Sinclar
  8. Kiara - Bonobo
  9. Trauma (Worakls Remix) - N'to
  10. If I Had a Heart - Fever Ray

This music is mix of electronic beats and two indie / rock song. They really help focus and I have goosebumps when I listening to it.

How do like this songs? Do you have favorite one and want to share with me? :) I'm looking forward to it!

Inspirations - Marion Bolognesi

As a designer I love, love art and everything eye-catching. I constantly looking for breathtaking painters and artist to follow and inspire.

So I wanna to share with you some of my favorite fine arts or artist.

Today I'll talk about amazing Marion Bolognesi.
Can we find the basic information on the official blog: Marion Bolognesi lives and works in New York City. Her interest in drawing, painting & fashion were evident at a very young age. In 2003 Marion received a BFA with a focus in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in Boston, MA. After finishing undergrad, Marion moved to New York where she has worked in the arts for the past 8 years. Her time is split between accessories design and her personal passion for expressive, illustrative watercolor painting. Marion has exhibited her paintings and work around the globe.

Her work is stunning! This is mix of watercolor portraits with some crazy splashes and tears of paint. All are painted on a white background and devoid of facial contours. I have a feeling that it fills a lot of emotions that paint can not soak into the paper because of their excess, and roll off the cards. A m a z i n g! as a true fun of watercolor I immediately fall in love :)

Look at it yourself!

Of course not all the images I put here, because if you like her work, please visit the official website or  my Pinterest board in order to explore more and more! :)
